The T Shelter was developed in response to a growing need for a low cost shelter that would cover a standard size picnic setting for park locations.
The challenge
With many shelter designs on the market, how could we be different? This was the question Michelle Herbut asked herself, when tasked with creating a new product for Town & Park. Keeping costs down while maintaining a uniquely simple design was important. And as Town & Park were known for their small but distinct ranges, keeping parts to a minimum was key to controlling stock levels and keeping in line with the business model.
Our solution
Utilising standard, readily available material sizes, with minimal processes, meant cost and lead time were greatly reduced. The simple, yet effective design meant the shelter was easy to pack down and ship, and could be assembled by a kit of parts, making it easy to install. Having a two post structure meant increased accessibility around the picnic setting and a visually open structure.
The result
The T Shelter is a simple design that can be created with a flat or split roof. The large timber beam provides interest, and contrast against the galvanised steel structure. The roof material was designed to incorporate various materials, again providing a feature, or difference to existing structures.
Michelle Herbut was an employee of Town & Park during this period and the shelter is a proprietary item of Stoddart Town & Park.
